Simplifying Business Planning: One Page Business & Vision Plan

In the fast-paced world of business, simplicity can be a powerful ally, guiding us through the complexities and uncertainties that often accompany entrepreneurial endeavors. For me, this philosophy became a guiding principle after graduating from a state school with a modest 2.4 GPA. Necessity led me to discover the art of keeping things simple – really, really simple.

For over a decade, my business planning approach has revolved around crafting concise, 1-2 page plans. Astonishingly, only 31% of small business owners have taken the time to document their business strategies. This revelation underscores the importance of a written plan, and my journey reinforces the notion that simplicity is key.

My process kicks off with a period of ideation, during which I explore and iterate ideas, concepts, and priorities in a dedicated journal or notes app. Over the course of a few weeks, I capture every idea, thought, and aspiration for the upcoming year. Subsequently, I distill these elements into a clear and focused business plan.

While details, metrics, and a robust execution plan with tracking mechanisms are crucial, my primary focus is on the initial written plan of attack. Breaking down priorities into smaller tasks makes the process less daunting and facilitates a smoother start.

Not every goal is realized each year, and that's perfectly fine. In fact, I intentionally set ambitious targets in certain areas, understanding that progress always trumps perfection. It's an ethos that has served me well over the years.

If simplifying business and making goal setting attainable, I've shared my simple formula for business and vision planning. You can grab a copy of both digital downloads to explore the approach that has helped me navigate the complexities of business planning. If you decide to implement it, I'd love to hear about your experiences and the positive impact it has on your entrepreneurial journey.
